TARIQ for Windows
A peer-to-peer messenger that hides who talks to whom. This is a beta, so expect some rough edges.
Download for WindowsCheck the file before you open it
Every download has a fingerprint. If yours matches the one below, the file is exactly what we published. Open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run:
Get-FileHash .\TARIQ-Beta-Setup-0.8.0-mature.108.2.exe
The Hash it prints must be exactly:
2075F73A3F4EA967D2E39569313F9AF4410151660743363DD38B21305640C7EF
If it is different, delete the file and do not run it. All fingerprints: SHA256SUMS.
The “unknown publisher” warning
During the beta, the installer doesn't carry a Microsoft-recognised publisher certificate yet, so Windows SmartScreen may stop it with “Windows protected your PC”. When the fingerprint matches, choose More info, then Run anyway.
Only do this for a file whose fingerprint you checked. Never skip any other security warning.
Install and first start
- Run the installer. It installs for your Windows account only, so it needs no administrator rights.
- Start TARIQ from the Start menu. It creates your identity on this computer — your keys never leave it — and shows your TARIQ ID.
- Share your TARIQ ID with someone to bond, then start talking.
What this beta does and doesn't do yet
- Your metadata is protected by the GHAYB mixnet and cover traffic.
- End-to-end encryption is not on yet.
- Updates install only after you agree, and only when they carry a valid signature from the TARIQ release key built into the app.
- Pictures in Posts and chat don't display on Windows yet. The Store, video preview and sounds aren't available on Windows yet.
- Your data lives in
%USERPROFILE%\.config\tariq. Uninstalling keeps it; delete that folder to remove it for good.
